I hope everyone had a restful and wonderful Fall break. It was great welcoming students back this week. We began our week with a new unit in Science on weather. Students explored key vocabulary in partners, such as temperature, climate, seasons, and evaporation, trying to come up with a definition for each. They could use words or images to convey their prior knowledge. They will be building their knowledge of these concepts over the coming weeks. In math, we started to explore decimals. We expanded our understanding of place value to now encompass decimal place value. Next week, we will be comparing and ordering decimal numbers.  In ELAL, we finished our paragraph writing and started our small group reading during independent reading. Each student will meet with me weekly in a small group to practice essential reading skills targeting their individual needs. In Art, students learned about Picasso, and began to practice blind contour line drawings of their hands. Next week, student...

This week was busy as we practiced and prepared for our Remembrance Day assembly. Our grade 5s and 6s did a fantastic job putting the ceremony on for our entire school community. We created a wreath of poppies and listened to the Blackfoot translation of In Flanders Fields. Students were given a line of the Blackfoot translations, and created artwork that represented the poem. Yesterday, after the ceremony, students wrote thank you postcards to veterans.  Students also completed a fractions math quiz, and will start looking into decimals after break. We tackled our first UFLI lesson focusing on the graphemes 'ai' and 'ay'.  I hope everyone has a wonderful and relaxing Fall Break. I look forward to seeing students next Wednesday, November 15th.

Happy Friday! This week was busy and eventful. For Halloween, students painted pumpkins with their grade 2 buddies and walked in the Halloween parade during the afternoon.  Next week we will be focusing on Remembrance Day and putting on the Remembrance Day ceremony on Wednesday. If you're interested in attending, it will begin at 10:45 on Wednesday, November 8th.  In math, we continued with fractions, comparing and ordering them. We also reviewed equivalent fractions with some math games in preparation for our math quiz on Monday. In ELAL, we wrote our final paragraphs, using a self-edit checklist that focuses on grammar, punctuation, spelling and the proper format of paragraphs. We continued listening to Six Minutes and started charting the story on plot diagrams in groups. We learned about life cycles in Science and created a Venn diagram comparing the life cycle of a variety of plants and animals. In Social Studies, some students began researching their next region of Canad...
