Happy Friday! This week, students finished collecting food donations for the Food Bank and collected nearly 1800 donations from their fellow Ramsay students! They did an incredible job organizing all the food every day and updating the school on which classes from Division I and Division II had donated the most items with daily announcements. Our class donated the most items in Division II! Students finished up their geometry unit in math by creating radial symmetry name art. We spent time practicing our math fluency on 99math, which the students loved. Students worked hard on writing out their stories for their picture book, and had their classmates edit the writing for spelling, grammar and punctuation. They will be finishing their picture books the first week back to school in January.  Students also finished preparing for their regions presentations, and will be presenting when they return from holidays. In Science, students explored wind and created wind vanes, which they test...

Hello families! This week, students continued to learn about symmetry, and focused on rotational symmetry. They explored symmetry in First Nations, Métis and Inuit designs with a mini research project. On our community walk, students found symmetry in nature (in leaves, logs in the water, and even animals!). Students explored the literary element of theme this week. As we read various picture books as a class, they were able to come up with many interesting lessons that the author was trying to convey. They began planning their own picture books, and will be creating them next week. They will be concluding their regions research in Social Studies, and presenting their information in their groups next week. In Science, we continued to look at weather. Each day, a student is our weather forecaster. Next week, students will be charting the weather for the entire week. In PE, we played gaga ball.  Students have also been collecting food bank donations this week and tallying them up for...

Happy Thursday! This week, students finished their work on decimals and began their new math unit on geometry. We explored the properties of symmetry, and created 2D shapes that were symmetrical. Next week, we will be exploring 3D shapes, and symmetry in nature.  We continued to listen to the Six Minutes podcast, and students looked into the literary element of character by creating character sketches of the main character of Six Minutes, Holiday. We also explored the literary element of setting and students created descriptive paragraphs from picture prompts. We finished the week by reading with our grade 2 buddies. Students continued their region research project, and used provided resources to find out the landforms, climate, wildlife, and other information on their chosen region. On our community walk, students used thermometers to check the temperature in various outdoor locations. In class, students learned about the factors that affect weather. We also began to organize for ...

Happy Friday! This week, we worked on comparing and ordering decimals on number lines. On Monday, December 4th, we will be having a quiz on decimals. We also started to review multiplication, and learned the box method for three digit by two digit multiplication. In ELAL, we finished focusing on our literary element of plot. We reviewed story mountains (exposition, rising action, climax, falling action and exposition) and completed one for our read aloud of 'Enemy Pie'. In Social Studies, students began a group project on a region. They will be research one region of Canada and presenting their research to the class in the final week of December to the class. We continued weather in science, and students compared the temperature on thermometers in different locations of the room to consider why some areas in the classroom were colder than others. In art, students finished their blind contour line portrait drawings. A few reminders: Skating on Monday Community Walk on Tuesday Fu...
