Thank you to everyone that came out to our Celebration of Learning last week! It was great to see you, and I hope you enjoyed seeing all your student's hard work. Here are a few images from our class that evening: This week, students created tables of values from patterns, then worked to graph the patterns onto grid paper. They worked in partners and independently to come up with observations for various graphed patterns. We will be finished our patterns unit on Monday with a final test. In Science, students learned about different ways to separate mixtures, such as decanting, distillation, filtration, and magnetic separation. They also considered different real world applications for separation mixtures. In Social Studies, students researched the various roles citizens of New France had, such as habitant, seigneur, voyageur, coureur de bois, filles du roi, etc. They will be taking on the role of one of these citizens with a creative writing activity next week. In ELAL, we started ...

Good afternoon families. We continued to explore patterns this week in math. Students continued to find the pattern rule for a set of numbers, and worked in partners to determine the pattern rule of various patterns. We then learned how to find the pattern rule between two sets of numbers, and used the pattern to create input output tables.  In Social Studies, students learned about the fur trade, and will be engaging in a fur trade game next week. We continued creating amazing poetry in ELAL - making concrete poems (shape poems that take the shape of whatever subject the poem is about) and black out poetry. These will be up during our celebration of learning next week. We made toilet paper hamburgers in Art and students had so much fun sculpting their hamburgers. We will be painting them next week! We also had our community clean up yesterday, where students in grade 5 and 6 picked up garbage around Ramsay community. It was a beautiful day for it! A few reminders: We have school o...

Weekly Update: May 3

Good afternoon families! This week, students finished our order of operations unit in Math. Students played an order of operations bowling game in groups, then completed an order of operations scavenger hunt, before finishing the unit with our final unit test. We moved on to patterns, where students learned that patterns are predictable and have the ability to identify what will happen next. We went over what a pattern rule is, and determined the pattern rule for a variety of numerical patterns. In Science, we began our last unit of the year - classroom chemistry! Students learned about mixtures and solutions, such as homogenous mixtures and heterogenous mixtures. Next week, we will be engaging in our first science experiment of the unit with candy canes. In Social Studies, students finished their research on New France, and we will be focusing on the Fur Trade next week. In ELAL, students created limerick poems and cinquain poems. We also focused on water conservation and protection b...
